Who we are

Made inRotorua.

Manawa Basketball develops young basketball players here in Rotorua, at home, in an environment built on respect, accountability and responsibility.

Our name and identity carry the story of Manawa and his responsibility for the Whakapoungakau ranges: caring for what sustains people, and carrying that responsibility forward. That is the heart of how we work: whanaungatanga, rangatiratanga and manaakitanga, in everything from training to how we treat each other.

What guides us

Our values

Three values sit at the centre of Manawa Basketball. They shape how we coach, how we choose players and how we treat each other.

Whanaungatanga

Belonging

We bring rangatahi, whānau, coaches, schools and clubs together. Everyone belongs here, and everyone lifts each other.

Rangatiratanga

Leadership

We grow leadership, ownership and excellence in rangatahi, on the court and in school, health and life beyond it.

Manaakitanga

Care

We uphold the mana of every player and whānau through care, respect and generosity, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards.

What we do

Developthe wholeplayer.

We run a focused 12-week programme with three closed sessions a week. Every player has an individual plan covering goals, strength and conditioning, and nutrition education, built around everything else in their life.

Boys and girls train together and learn the same things at the same time.

Opening doors

Talent first. Not cost.

We back players on commitment and potential, not on what they can afford. Our funders and partners make that possible, so Rotorua’s best young players get the chance to develop here at home.

Point of difference

Why train with Manawa

Player-owned goals

Players set their own goals and measures of success, so the plan belongs to them.

Load management

We see training alongside school, work and other sport, and plan around it.

Weekly updates

Coaches update every plan weekly. Parents and players always know where things stand.

Progressive method

Every session follows the same structure, from skills to live play.

How long it goes for

12 weeks. 3 sessions a week.

A full programme block with testing at the start and end, so every player can see how far they’ve come.
