Privacy policy

Draft for review. This policy will be finalised before launch.

Manawa Basketball takes the privacy of young players and their families seriously. Most people we work with are under 18. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it under the Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

  • Expressions of interest: player name, date of birth, school, club, position, playing history, and parent or caregiver contact details.
  • Player plans (selected players only): goals and reflections, strength and conditioning and nutrition plans, weekly coach updates, testing results, and the commitments players add to their calendar.
  • Accounts: name, email and an encrypted (hashed) password.

Why we collect it

To assess expressions of interest, deliver the programme, manage training load, and keep players and families informed. We never sell personal information or use it for marketing.

Who can see it

  • Players and their linked parents or caregivers see only their own plan.
  • Coaches see the players in the programme. Some coach notes are visible to coaches only.
  • Administrators manage accounts and expressions of interest.

How we protect it

  • Every page of the portal requires a login. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, never as plain text.
  • Access is checked on every request based on your role.
  • Data is stored on infrastructure controlled by Manawa Basketball and backed up regularly.

How long we keep it

Expressions of interest that don’t lead to selection are deleted within 24 months. Player records are kept while the player is in the programme, and for a period afterwards that we will confirm.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time. If you are not happy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
